An inviting travel brochure for City of Tampere
This brochure project started as a final assignment in my Finnish language course at the University of Jyväskylä, yet I decided to take it seriously as also a design project. What are ways to think differently and create differently? I often found myself pondering over more creative solutions to current designs. This project was thus naturally approached as an opportunity to think outside the box and design something unseen before.
In contrast to travel brochures that center on photos for display, I used my hand-drawn illustrations that not only grab attention immediately, but also stand out among photo-based brochures and inspire imagination for the viewers. Additionally, I also visualized all the activities outlined in this 2-day travel plan while featuring some of the most iconic landscapes in City of Tampere. Creative and reader-friendly, the brochure sparkles the urge to hop on this artistic journey and let one's creativity roam.
"This legit made me wanna go now!" Said my classmates after seeing my brochure presentation in class. To my surprise, some of them actually visited Tampere and followed the same activities as I drew in the brochure! Good designs can indeed inspire actions. The brochure was also very well received by Visit Tampere staff.

To supplement the brochure, I also created a series of product designs and the animation above for media display, further advertising and raising awareness for the Taidematka in Tampere. The heart-warming illustrations show a brand new representation of both the iconic and the everyday brands and landscape in Tampere.
While the project started as a language course assignment, it has been developed through my illustrations and ideation and became a Taidematka campaign for the city of Tampere.
